L’ Associazione Caravaggio è lieta di presentare il primo grande evento della stagione autunnale:

Mario Pirovano in FRANCIS, THE HOLY JESTER (lu santo jullare Francesco).
Per la prima volta in Svezia, e in esclusiva per l‘Associazione Caravaggio a Stoccolma e Uppsala, la versione ufficiale in lingua inglese del famoso testo di Dario Fo, portata in scena da Mario Pirovano, affermato attore e per anni collaboratore dello stesso Fo, che ha curato la regia di questo spettacolo.
 
Dopo i successi ottenuti in Italia e all’estero, (basti ricordare la partecipazione al famoso Festival di Edimburgo), Pirovano approda in Svezia con il suo acclamato show, prima tappa di una tournée internazionale che lo porterà fino agli Stati Uniti. L’associazione Caravaggio è onorata di ospitarlo, e vi invitiamo caldamente a partecipare.

Francis, the holy jester: “Lu Santo Jullàre Françesco” è un monologo in cui prende vita un’ intera serie di personaggi dell’Italia medievale: Papi e Cardinali, soldati sui campi di battaglia, contadini e venditori al mercato, monaci e cavapietre. La realtà storica e la tradizione popolare si intrecciano senza sosta nel ripercorrere alcuni dei momenti più significativi della vita di Francesco: la richiesta di approvazione della Regola al Papa Innocenzo III, la predica agli uccelli, l’incontro con il lupo, la malattia agli occhi…
Lavorando su leggende popolari, su testi canonici del Trecento e su documenti emersi negli ultimi cinquant’anni, Dario Fo elabora un’immagine non agiografica di san Francesco: spogliato dal mito, ritroviamo un personaggio provocatorio, coerente, coraggioso, ironico.

Mario Pirovano: Sino dal 1983, Mario Pirovano é stato coinvolto in tutte le produzioni di Dario Fo e Franca Rame, sia in veste di attore, che di assistente alla produzione, che di traduttore. Dopo tanti anni al seguito del maestro Fo, col quale si è formata una solida amicizia, Pirovano è diventato non solo uno dei più importanti interpreti delle opere dello stesso Fo, ma anche un appassionato e instancabile mediatore della lingua che ha reso Fo conosciuto in tutto il mondo, sino al culmine del riconoscimento del Premio Nobel per la Letteratura.

For the first time in Sweden, exclusively for Associazione Caravaggio in Stockholm and Uppsala, the official English translation of Dario Fo’s famous play, put on stage by Mario Pirovano, successful actor and for many years close collaborator of Dario Fo himself, who directs this play.

After the success in Italy and abroad, (we only mention here his participation at the famous Edinburgh Theatre festival), Pirovano comes in Sweden for the first time, first appointment of his international tour. Associazione Caravaggio is proud to have him here, and we warmly invite you to participate.

Francis the Holy jester: is a one man show, a play which relies solely on the considerable skill of a highly experienced performer and the imagination of the audience. This is a show without props, without scenery and with the simplest of costume where the bond between the audience and the performer, and thus the material and subject is tangible, visceral. A whole range of characters from 13th Century Italy are brought to life before us: Popes and Cardinals, Dukes and Duchesses, soldiers on the battle field, traders in the marketplace and St Francis himself. The play traces some events from the life of this most colourful and renowned of holy men, his desire to follow the word of God and to communicate this to the people for the good of mankind. It illustrates his commitment to his beliefs, his willingness to sacrifice his wellbeing and material comfort for the sake of his faith and his readiness to challenge hypocrisy wherever he sees it to expose the truth. This is a play that truly addresses some fundamental questions about how we express our faith and commitment to Christian principles. It has the timelessness of a great story masterfully told and is full of relevance for our lives today.

Mario Pirovano: Since 1983, Mario Pirovano been involved in all productions made by Dario Fo and his wife Franca Rame, either as actors or assistant producer, director or simultaneous translator. After many years as a disciple of Dario Fo, (who became his close friends), Pirovano has not only developed himself to become the one of the most important interpreters of Dario Fo’s plays, but also a passionate and tireless mediator of the genre and the language has made Fo famous worldwide and distinguished him with a Nobel Prize in Literature.
